Ok, a few weeks ago I have posted an article about Globe's new wireless broadband internet offering Tonino Lamborghini, which as I mentioned, reminded me of a car brand. And it turns out that the broadband stick's brand is not actually the car brand but a luxury watch brand as there are 2 Lamborghini companies: Lamborghini Automobili (the car brand) and Tonino Lamborghini (the watch brand).
Yeah I know, it's kinda dumb of me to not know or research any of these as I could care less about luxury watches or where the hell Globe got that brand name. Besides, the advertisement "Feed your need for speed" and tapping Filipino-Swiss car formula racer Marlon Stockinger to the marketing campaign is very misleading, so the car brand will easily come to mind. It seems that during Globe's marketing campaign of their newest broadband stick, someone at Globe's marketing department did not do his homework thus creating a big mess confusing Tonino Lamborghini with the car brand. And apparently, this screw up came to Tonino Lamborghini's attention, so they posted the press release below:

"BOLOGNA, ITALY--(Marketwire - Aug. 23, 2011) - Tonino Lamborghini s.r.l., an Italy-based company which is the sole lawful owner worldwide of the trademark "Tonino Lamborghini" hereunder

wishes to inform its customers that unauthorized people are currently trading online and through Globe stores a "4G Tatto Tonino Lamborghini" broadband stick which is a counterfeited product.
Tonino Lamborghini s.r.l. has never manufactured or authorized anyone to manufacture such a product which constitutes therefore a serious trademark infringement.
Moreover the advertising campaign "Feed your need for speed" featuring Marlon Stockinger, first Filipino to win a formula race in Europe, is deceitful and unlawful since it leads to a serious likelihood of confusion between two different and separate brands and businesses that is to say "Tonino Lamborghini" and "Automobili Lamborghini".
Tonino Lamborghini s.r.l. shall take any legal action to protect the brand.
Yours faithfully,
Dott. Gian Luca Filippi
Tonino Lamborghini s.r.l.
CEO"

Globe, on the other hand, already released a statement regarding this big mishap:
"Globe Telecom obtained authorization to use the name and logo Tonino Lamborghini through an agreement with Primo Mobile, the master franchisor of mobile phone related products for the Italian brand Tonino Lamborghini. PrimoMobileis a Singapore-based company that has a master license agreement with Tonino Lamborghini s.r.l. and is duly authorized to sub-license the use of the Lamborghini logo. The design of the Globe Tattoo Tonino Lamborghini 4G USB sticks was reviewed and approved by Primo Mobile.
Globe Telecom assures the public of its strong adherence and commitment to the highest ethical standards in business and good corporate governance. The company will not engage in any activity that will mislead the public in the course of doing business and serving its customers."
So this seems like a big misunderstanding between Primo Mobile and Tonino Lamborghini, and Globe just got caught up in this big mess. I wonder how Globe is gonna handle this. After Globe gets out of this, I'm foreseeing that they will change the name of the Tonino Lamborghini stick due to irrelevance. Will this affect the sales of their wireless broadband internet products especially the Tonino Lamborghini stick? I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all pans out.
