Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand and Details About The Upcoming Patch

back to karkand

If you're enjoying Battlefield 3 for a while now and you've also got the limited edition then you surely don't wanna miss the Back to Karkand expansion pack. There's currently no exact date yet, but DICE confirmed it's coming this December, and it's certainly not far off. And knowing that us PS3 gamers are gonna get 1 week earlier than everyone else, it makes me more excited.

So what exactly do we have with Back to Karkand? Here's the complete list.

1. Battlefield 2 maps reimagined in Frostbite 2 engine - Strike at Karkand, Wake Island, Gulf of Oman, Sharqi Peninsula. Honestly, I haven't played Battlefield 2 yet (and I might not play ever) but new maps are always a welcome addition to me. These maps will be included in rotation to BF3's existing maps so that is really cool.

2. 10 new weapons. Wow something new to toy with.
-> HK53
-> PP-19
-> L85A2
-> FAMAS
-> QBU-88
-> L96A1
-> Jackhammer
-> MG36
-> QBZ-97
-> QBB-95

3. 3 new vehicles. I can't wait to hop into one of these.
-> F35B Fighter Jet
-> BTR-90 Infantry Fighting Vehicle
-> DPV Fast Transport Vehicle

4. New game mode - Conquest Assault. This new game mode is a fast-paced version of assault where the attacking team rushes to take back a map's worth of capture points. Though it seems very interesting, I'm a bit disappointed that the mode is only available on the new maps. Here's how the gameplay looks like with this new game mode.

Ok I admit the player here is pretty horrible at aiming but at least you get an idea of what the conquest assault is all about as well as the Strike at Karkand map and the enhanced destruction. ^__^

5. Extended Persistence - Battlefield 3 Assignments; Enhanced Destruction. This will come bundled along with Back to Karkand, and basically it is composed of a set of tasks that the player needs to complete in order to unlock the 10 new weapons in Back to Karkand. Also, if you can't get enough of the destruction in Battlefield 3 currently, the Back to Karkand promises enhanced destruction where you can literally blow buildings to the ground.

Here's quick sneak in preview on what's in store for us:

On the other hand, DICE has just rolled out a patch for PC last night at 11 PM PST and these fixes are applied according to gamers' feedback. I'm pretty sure that the same fixes will be deployed to consoles soon.

Visual and performance fixes

  • General performance and loading time improvements
  •  “Black Screen” fix for an issue occurring on some PC Configurations
  • Stereo and Rendering Support for Nvidia and AMD Graphics Cards

  • Fixed multiple problems when using multiple monitors (Eyefinity / Surround).
  • Fixed visual corruption issues on certain Nvidia Cards
  • Improved loading times for certain textures

  • Added console command “UI.DrawEnable” to hide UI for screenshots / videos

Balance and gameplay adjustments

  • Fixed a problem with high speed mouse movement
  • Added back some missing Growlers on Kharg Island Conquest Large
  • Added back EOR sound for SQDM and TDM
  • You should no longer be able to damage a friendly vehicle when sitting in an open position
  • Grenades now drop to ground if you get killed while attempting to throw it(note the affect this will have on Hardcore mode!)
  • Spawn protection now should work in Conquest. You should no longer spawn on points too close to enemies
  • You should no longer spawn too close to enemies in TDM and SQDM
  • Combat areas on Kharg Rush tweaked in order to disallow defenders to access the carrier ship after 1st base is taken and being able to enter the AA gun

  • Advanced squad polish – should be more intuitive
  • Significant changes to the Join Squad functionality (see below)
  • Fixed a problem regarding keybindings while playing
  • You should now get a better error message when being disconnected via Battlelog

Server updates

For these server side updates, I'm guessing that we console players will get these as well.

  • EOD Bot exploit fix (For those of you who don't know this, it's an exploit that is only available for Engineer class that is abused by boosters to rack up insane amount of points. If you're reading this and you're a booster then dig this: Boosters are fags)
  • Several crash fixes
  • Anti-stat padding measures taken, disallowing ranked servers to run obscure settings
  • Improved team kill kick configuration
  • Support for unranked servers. Unranked servers do not report players’ scores to Battlelog, but server administrators can freely control all settings

Squad changes

  • Removed FIND ME A SQUAD option
  • Allow players to join empty Squads alone, thus having 1/4 squad members
  • Change order of options to LEAVE SQUAD, INV A FRIEND, SWITCH TEAM
  • Disable Privacy flag when 1 man squad
  • Reset Privacy flag from Private to Public when squad drops to 1 player
  • All occupied Squads will now show up colored blue on the Squad Selection screen
  • Players who choose not to join squads will also show up as Blue in the “Not in a Squad” line
  • Squads that are currently empty will display as white — if you wish to join an empty Squad, you can choose the first one marked with white text.

    Also some of the things that DICE are looking into and might also get a fix in the future:

    IRNV scope - I've been using it for a while as an attachment to M249 and I must say I'm enjoying it. The enemies has literally nothing to hide with this attachment. Though I don't find it overpowered with this gun, I can imagine that you're literally a sitting duck for recons that have this attachment.

    Flashlight attachment - Yeah, I know they are very annoying. And it's more ridiculous when you get blinded by it in broad daylight and I'm glad that DICE is doing something to tone it down.

    Mortars - Mortars are more annoying than effective to be honest, and I thought it wasn't effective spamming it because it reveals your location in the minimap. But apparently, people have thought of ways and they plant their mortars on out of bound areas (particularly on their deployment area) so the opposing team won't be able to get to their location.

    In-game VOIP addition - I believe this is for PC only.

    Chat window changes (size, positioning) - Again for PC only. A lot of BF3 players on PC have been complaining about this because it occupies a large part of the screen.

    New squad changes (ability to make squads) - This is what I'm really itching to be fixed. It just pisses me off when I try to make squad of 4 with my friends, only to be splitted in Attackers and Defenders teams once we enter the fray. I can imagine that this one is a little hard to fix, but I'm glad that DICE is doing something about this as one of the glitches in the game that is complained about the most.

    Battlerecorder - DICE is very much aware of the demand for this feature, and though this might not make it on the next patch, I'm guessing that this feature will be rolled out sooner or later.  I do hope it makes it on the consoles as well. Hooaaah!

    Input lag problem in PS3 - I thought it was a problem with my connection but some people confirmed that there is really controller lag in PS3 which makes aiming problematic most of the time. Alan Kertz, core gameplay designer of DICE, confirmed that they are looking into it and they will fix it. Follow him on Twitter if you like to ask questions or give feedback about the game.

    As an additional note, DICE has started banning and wiping stats of players caught boosting and cheating in Battlefield 3. Boosters and cheaters literally take the fun away from the game and I hate them with a passion. And now DICE has raised the banhammer, don't dare try to boost if you don't want to end up like this:

    UPDATE: Playstation Asia already posted an exact date for the arrival of Back to Karkand DLC! 7 days to go guys!

    So what do you think about these fixes by DICE in the game? Let me know in the comments!
